kim? 2nd anniversary and the opening of the yearbook and exhibitions on May 14

kim?

On May 14, with the opening of the yearbook and exhibitions by artists Kaspars Groševs, Reinis Hofmanis and Darja Meļņikova, kim? celebrates its second anniversary!

After two years of work the acronymic title of kim? continues seeking for new guesses and transcripts. The question "what is art?" (kas ir māksla? in Latvian) is still the most visible of them. Looking for a point of reference, we are interested in questioning our and your relative obscurity. What is, what is not, how it has to be and how it never will be. And above all is understanding that if you are not going to question everything you do the sense and meaning of your existence are lost.

We had to contemplate these essential questions of being when working on the kim? yearbook "The art is all that is the case. Dialogues with Vassily in the context of kim? exhibitions 2009-2010". Dialogues are written by Jānis Taurens, a professor and reviewer of contemporary arts.

Everything continues regardless of retrospection. At 7 p.m. the opening of exhibitions by Kaspars Groševs, Reinis Hofmanis and Darja Meļņikova will take place. Eduards Dorofejefs, an emerging art theoretician, in a conversation describes to artists how he sees concept of their work: "When thinking about unity, it seems to me that you are united by uncertainty. There is chaos and order where you can't be sure if this is SI system or not (Darja Meļņikova). Furthermore there are non-existant memories, impressions about unknown. It's the uncertainty of knowledge and impressions (Kaspars Groševs). Also in photographies in the most understandable way an indefinite line between rules of life and game will be drawn (Reinis Hofmanis)."

During the evening in the institution titled "what is art?" a performance "what is music?" (kas ir mūzika? in Latvian) with participation of sound exploring artists Kaspars Groševs, Ģirts Korps and Mārtiņš Ratniks will happen.

We will be happy to see you there!
