UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE IN ANIMATION

On September 10  at 3 pm, in kim? lecture hall, everyone at age of 12-18 is invited to take part in an afternoon discussion for youth: "UNESCO World Heritage in Animation".

 

The meeting takes place in the frames of The 4th Baltic Sea Region Cultural Heritage Forum, which offers a meeting place where pending matters, knowledge and ideas can be exchanged on regional and European bases. Topical challenges – environmental, economic and intercultural – are valorised covering among others environmental assessment of historic buildings, cultural heritage as a public good and an asset in local and regional development, competent restoration of cultural heritage and maintenance of authenticity as well as contemporary architecture in historic surroundings.

 

Few of the sessions of the Forum will  take place in kim?: Environmental assessments of historic buildings on September 9, and Cultural heritage and contemporary architecture - in the afternoon, the same day. On September 10, Patrimonito Storyboard Workshop for youngsters will take place (in cooperation with the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO).

The youth discussion is planned as an open discussion, which will start with the presentations about the places of UNESCO heritage in the world and in Latvia, discovering their values and diversity, and the issues related to their prevailance. The main aim of the discussion is to reveal the range of possibilities of depicting and involving these matters in the animation - and how the world heritage can be shown through visual accents, through drawing series - visuality and plots.

 

A part of the discussion will be a program of the animation movies made by UNESCO World Heritage Center (presented in English); Pēteris Blūms, expert of VKPAI (Latvia) will tell about the historical center of Riga as a part of the world cultural heritage, and Reinis Liepa, an artist, will talk about different ways to include and show urban environment in animation works; and will discuss, how a story can be told, accenting the values of cultural heritage, and it's preserving.
