From 10 November, 2008 till 10 June, 2009 the association “Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art” was implementing the sub-project “Development and Implementation of Innovative Administration Model in the Newly Founded Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art” of the grant scheme "Short Term Expert Fund" of the Norwegian financial instrument.
The aim of the project was to get acquainted with the structure, the principles of operation and the main processes of the best European contemporary art organizations and to implement their experience in the development of an innovative administration model for kim? - the pilot-project of Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as to use the experience while working on the filiation of the museum in Spīķeri and on the main building of the museum in Andrejsala.
The adaptation of experience, knowledge and contacts of foreign institutions substantially increases the augmentation of administrative capacity of the association, as well as increases professional, effective and sustained functioning of the museum preserving European cultural heritage. Moreover, it furthers the improvement of the services provided according to the requirements of a contemporary society.
The pivotal activities of the project involved visits to the leading contemporary art organizations in Norway, Germany and Great Britain in order to adopt the good practice of these organizations, the development of good administration model by an expert task group, the establishment of the website www.kim.lv and development of informative materials, as well as the organization of an informative seminar at the close of the project.
Representatives of the association not only met representatives of distinguished Western European contemporary art institutions, but also recapped their experience in a manual (in Latvian) on innovative museum administration as well as in a well-attended conference “Contemporary Art Museum in 21st Century” on May 16, 2009. Furthermore, the assistance of the bilateral financial instrument helped kim? to establish a video archive, which is still being supplemented with new and essential information accessible to all Internet users, and a virtual collection of Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art.
